ACCRA, GHANA’S CAPITAL AMONG 10 RICHEST CITIES IN AFRICA

South-Africa with 4 cities; Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban and Pretoria is among the top 10 richest cities on the continent leading the ranking.

Accra has never been ranked in the top 10 in a list of 23 wealthiest African cities as contained in a report published by AfrAsia Bank and New World Wealth.

The report found that Accra was home to 2,300 dollar millionaires and 100 multi-millionaires (persons with assets worth $10m and above).

Mauritius retains its spot as the wealthiest country in Africa, with a wealth per person for those living in Mauritius is $25,700 in one year. The poorest people living on the continent are living in Zimbabwe with $200 per person.

The report also mentioned the total wealth of the cities, citing:

Johannesburg: Total wealth held in the city amounts to US$245 billion.

Cairo: Total wealth held in the city amounts to US$140 billion.

Cape Town: Total wealth held in the city amounts to US$135 billion.

Lagos: Total wealth held in the city amounts to US$120 billion.

Nairobi: Total wealth held in the city amounts to US$55 billion.

Luanda: Total wealth held in the city amounts to US$48 billion.

Durban: Total wealth held in the city amounts to US$46 billion.

Pretoria: Total wealth held in the city amounts to US$42 billion.

Casablanca: Total wealth held in the city amounts to US$40 billion.

Accra: Total wealth held in the city amounts to US$35 billion.

Cities ranked below Accra in the ranking include Marakesh, Abuja, Abidjan and Addis Ababa.

The report says by “Total wealth”, it refers to the “private wealth held by all the individuals living in each city. It includes all their assets (property, cash, equities and business interests) less any liabilities. We exclude government funds from our figures.”

South Africa was the most popular holiday destination for the super-rich African, with approximately 15,000 African millionaires visiting the country in one year.
