KOTOKA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (KIA) WINS SAFETY AWARD

The Kotoka International Airport (KIA) has been adjudged ‘Best Improvement in Safety’ in the Airports Council International (ACI) Safety Award. The award was presented at the ACI World Conference and Annual General Meeting held in Mauritius in October, 2017.

The ACI safety award recognizes the achievements of airports of different sizes across Africa and is presented to the airport that has demonstrated their commitment to providing excellence in safety and compliance practices. The KIA won the award after an extensive screening process from a number of entries in the category.

Presenting the award, the Secretary General of ACI Africa, Mr. Ali Tounsi, said: “An assessment relating to aviation safety and airport infrastructure was evaluated based on International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards, national regulations and ACI best practices.” He, therefore, congratulated the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) on the achievement.

“GACL has demonstrated significant commitment towards improving its safety standards by adopting a positive response to the recommendations made, following the Airport Excellence (APEX) review,” he stated.

The Board Chairperson of the GACL, Mrs. Oboshie Sai-Cofie, received the award on behalf of the company and said, “The award could not have come at a better time than this, as GACL celebrates its 10th anniversary.”

She said the company would continue to dedicate itself to promote a culture of continuous improvement in safety to gain competitive advantage and optimize operational excellence.
