DUTCH MINISTER OF FOREIGN TRADE AND DEVELOPMENT COOPERATION MEETS WITH DUTCH ENTREPRENEURS IN GHANA

The Dutch Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation, Ms. Sigrid Kaag visited Ghana on Tuesday 27th November. Since her taking office some weeks ago, Ghana is the first African country she has visited. The purpose of this visit was to reaffirm and further strengthen the excellent relations between the two countries whose shared history dates back centuries.

The Ghana Netherlands Business and Culture Council (GNBCC) attended a luncheon with the Minister and other representatives from Dutch companies in Ghana. During lunch, which took place at the Dutch Ambassador’s Residence, the current business climate and new initiatives and opportunities were discussed.

During her visit to Ghana, Minister Kaag was received by H.E. Vice President Bawumia to discuss how to increase mutual trade and investments. She also visited Safi Sana’s waste-to-energy plant, Blue Skies fruit processing plant and a women’s group in Jamestown.

The relation between The Netherlands and Ghana has gradually shifted from development cooperation to trade and investments, initiated by the Dutch’s “From Aid to Trade” Agenda. This aligns strongly with the Ghana beyond Aid Agenda, of the government of Ghana. Empowerment of the private sector and entrepreneurship should be the main engine for economic growth. Minister Kaag emphasized that this focus is “Not only good for Ghana, but also provides opportunities for Dutch companies and investors”.
