PRESIDENT AKUFO-ADDO, EU AMBASSADOR AND EBO DIRECTOR ATTEND SIGNING CEREMONY IN BRUSSELS

The President of the Republic of Ghana Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was invited to attend the signing ceremony of the European Consensus on Development agreement together with the Presidents of Ivory Coast: Alassane Ouattara and The President of Rwanda; Paul Kagami, The Queen of Belgium, Christine Lagarde the Managing Director (MD) of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and other dignitaries.
From Ghana the signing ceremony was attended by the EU Ambassador to Ghana William Hanna and the Executive Director of EBO in Ghana Nico van Staalduinen.
During the ceremony the President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker and the Vice President Federica Mogherini signed the consensus agreement that specifies a joint strategy to eradicate poverty.
The “European Consensus on Development” was signed on behalf of the EU and EU Member States.
The agreement specifies a joint strategy of the European Union and its member states to the new Consensus that takes a comprehensive approach to means of implementation, combining traditional development aid with other resources.
The Consensus provides the basis for the EU and its Member States to engage in more innovative forms of development financing, leveraging private sector investments and mobilizing additional domestic resources for development.
